Nicholson Model Sailing Club (inc)
The NMSC is a club of very active members whose aims are to promote the hobby of constructing and the sport of racing radio controlled yachts. We sail in the Nicholson River at NICHOLSON in (East Gippsland) Victoria. AUSTRALIA (at the car park) on the 2nd and the 4th Saturdays of the month starting at 11:30 am and the 3rd Thursday of the month at 12:30 pm . The club sails in winter on the first Saturday in July, August and September
New members will be made most welcome and any member of the public who would like to try this great sport can come and have a sail with us at any time
All classes of yachts are welcome, but the fostered class we race is the Australian designed "one point Five" class (1.5m). The waterline of the yacht is 1.5m long, has a draft of .5m, carries 1sq metre of sail, and has a removable keel
The design criteria was that the yacht be "one design" (all hulls out of the same mold) be easy to construct with cheap meterials such as aluminium, fibre glass, wood etc and ban the use of exotics eg: carbon fibre, titanium etc
This is a big powerful yacht that carries its "A rig" sail of 1 m2 in up to 20 kts of wind and a "B rig" of .77m2 for heavy weather
1.5m hulls can be purchased from the "One Point Five" class Associations authorised builder "MANAROO DESIGN" from approx $180.00 (see for sale page) and can supply all plans, lead bulbs, a construction CD and all the nesseasary help and guidance to complete the project. A yacht can be built for approx $1200.00 using the best of materials,a new FM radio, RMG smart winch, and professionally made sails
For members who have smaller vehicles, or would like to sail a smaller class of yacht we sail a division of IOM (International One Metre) yachts.
In keeping with our "One Design" philosphy most of our IOM`s are the "Orca" Design made by "Bluefin Radio Yachts" (see for sale page)
Applicants for membership are invited to come along and join in our activites for at least 3 sailing days so they can be introduced to and made welcome by our members
A joining fee of $50. of is requested along with a $35. annual subscription and all sailing members are requested to pay $2.ea per sailing day
